Jerry Miller
Jerry Miller was a USDA Agricultural Research Service (ARS) Sunflower Unit geneticist who contributed to many aspects of sunflower genetics. Many of his USDA releases became the basis for commercial hybrids. He quickly recognized the significance of the Imidazolinone (IMI) resistant wild sunflower found in Kansas. That discovery later became commercially available to farmers as Clearfield® sunflower. Jerry was instrumental in the development of NuSun® and won a major ARS award for his contributions. He played a key role in the International Sunflower Association and received the coveted Pustovoit Award.
