Joe Caroline
Joseph Caroline spent over 40 years working in the sunflower industry. Caroline began his career in 1975 as an agronomist with North Dakota State University and was stationed at Carrington, ND. There he conducted sunflower production trials, including yield and agronomic traits, planting dates, plant population and herbicide evaluation trials. In 1979 he began his employment with SIGCO Research as a Sales Agronomist. In 1981 he transitioned into the role of a sunflower plant breeder with SIGCO. Caroline was involved in developing the first high oleic sunflowers sold in the United States and Argentina. Caroline became a Product Development Agronomist with Dow AgroSciences in 2005 and held that position until his retirement in 2015. Caroline has been an active member of the National Sunflower Association since its formation in 1981 and served as a member of the NSA Research Committee and was chairperson for that committee for six years. He also served as a sunflower industry leader representative on the federally funded Sclerotina/White Mold Imitative. Joe was also chairperson of the ARS/USDA Focus Group, which maintains an interactive dialogue between public scientists’ research efforts and the needs of the industry.
