Drexel Defol (Sodium Chloride)

When to Apply Backside of sunflower heads are yellow and bracts turning brown; seed moisture content below 35%. Remarks For use on confection and oil-type varieties. Thorough coverage of plant is essential. Apply aerially at five to 10 gpa, or at 20 to 30 gpa by ground sprayer.

Gramoxone Extra (Paraquat)

When to Apply Backside of sunflower heads are yellow and bracts turning brown; seed moisture content below 35%. Remarks For use on confection and oil-type varieties. Apply with NIS. Randomly sample 10 average heads for seed moisture. Allow a seven day PHI.

Roundup (Glyphosate)

When to Apply Apply when the backsides of sunflower heads are yellow and bracts are turning brown and seed moisture content is less than 35%. Remarks This is registered as a late season weed control but functions like a desiccant.

Sharpen (Kixor)

When to Apply When sunflower seed moisture is 36 percent or less. Remarks For optimum desiccation an adjuvant must be used such as methylated seed oil or crop oil concentrate. Sharpen can be tank mixed with one or more labeled herbicides such as Glyphosate. Apply at least seven days prior to harvest. This is not a restricted use pesticide.

Valor® SX & Valor EZ+ Herbicide

When to Apply Apply when the backsides of sunflower heads are yellow and bracts are turning brown and seed moisture content is less than 35%. Remarks Valor can be used as a sunflower desiccant (2 - 3 oz/acre + MSO at 2 p/a), and if used at 3 oz/acre it would provide residual weed control from the fall to early spring.
